Sarah E. Jenkins (she/they) is a queer Appalachian artist from central Pennsylvania, living in Western Massachusetts. She creates experimental stop motion animation, drawings, and objects that explore themes of labor, queerness, wildness, and their Appalachian upbringing. Her work is rooted in experimentation and intuitive practices with a trickster nature, often responding to a place or feeling. Her work has been exhibited and screened at the Buffalo AKG Museum, Museum of Fine Art Boston, ICA Boston, Emerson Contemporary, and the Torrance Art Museum. In 2023, the Ciné Culture Series at Massachusetts College of Art and Design screened a retrospective of Jenkins’ moving image work. From fall 2023 to spring 2024 there was a 6 month solo exhibition of Jenkins’ work Slate Lines at the Boston Children’s Museum. There is a solo exhibition of Jenkins’ work in November 2026 at the South Gallery at Greenfield Community College.

Jenkins's work has screened internationally and domestically. Festivals include the Ann Arbor Film Festival, Squeaky Wheel Animation Fest, Boston Underground Film Festival, GRRL HAUS Cinema, and Los Angeles Film Forum. 

Jenkins’s residencies include MacDowell, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and the Santa Fe Art Institute’s 2023 Thematic Residency: Changing Climate. 

Their work is included in two forthcoming books: Reclamation: Queering Appalachia’s Visual Memory (WVU Press) and The Camera is You: Medium, Identity and the Moving Image in Personal Filmmaking (Bloomsbury Publishing).  When they aren’t teaching or making art, you may find her pulling tarot or taking meandering walks with her adventure cat, Nessie.
